Our highly acclaimed staff of doctors have years of experience between them.
If you think your pet cannot be helped, it's because they haven't been seen by our vets.

Dr. Jagpal Deo

Dr. Deo has been practicing veterinary medicine since 1992. After an internship in Ames, Iowa, he moved to Los Angeles, California to contribute to a multi-doctor practice there. After working two years in Los Angeles, he moved to Chula Vista with his family to start his own practice. He purchased South Bay Veterinary Hospital in 1994.

He thoroughly enjoys practicing veterinary medicine. His vision is to make pets live longer while controlling the medical cost with preventive care. In 2003, Dr. Deo was named “most admired” and “best veterinarian” in Chula Vista and has held that title for five consecutive years.

He currently leads a six-doctor practice and provides San Diego with comprehensive and personalized pet care. In his free time, Dr. Deo likes to walk and hike along the beach, but more importantly spend time with his family.

Dr. Stephen Sawyer

Stephen P. Sawyer, BS, BVSc, MRCVS, has been with South Bay Veterinary Hospital since July 2011 in a part-time capacity. A native San Diegan, Dr. Sawyer earned his Bachelor of Science in Biology at SDSU. After completing his undergraduate degree, he ventured abroad to the United Kingdom to pursue his veterinary qualification at the University of Liverpool and earn his Bachelor of Veterinary Science (BVSc), thus becoming a Member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (MRCVS).

While living in the U.K., he worked in two very different veterinary practices. One, a two vet mixed-animal practice that included dogs, cats, small mammals, horses, cattle and sheep. The other, a six vet, exclusively small animal hospital.

Dr. Sawyer is a member of AVMA, SDCVMA, CVMA, RCVS, and is USDA accredited. His interests include soft-tissue surgery and medicine, attending a wide scope of continuing education courses to keep up-to-date with the latest theories and treatments for our valued patients.

Dr. Roberto Soto

Dr. Roberto Soto is the newest addition to the South Bay Veterinary Hospital team. Born and raised in Puerto Rico, Dr. Soto got his undergraduate degree in the Dominican Republic at the Pedro Henriguez Urena University before coming to the U.S. to study veterinary medicine at the University of Illinois.

Dr. Soto specializes in general medicine, however, enjoys the challenge of investigating different diseases that affect the community on a daily basis and helping people care for their animals in a better way.

When Dr. Soto isn’t challenging his veterinary skills at South Bay, he enjoys riding his road bike and beach sports (which he so happily looks forward to doing every day in sunny San Diego). He also enjoys watching classic international movies and TV shows, like Game of Thrones and House of Cards, with his Italian Mastiff, Bruno.
