Chula Vista Veterinarian Stressing the Important of Pet Dental Care

As a
Chula Vista veterinarian, we care a lot about the health of pets. That is why we stress the importance of regular pet dental care. Unfortunately, many pet owners overlook examining and
cleaning dog's teeth. In fact, it is estimated that the majority of pets over the age of three have some form of periodontal disease more than 80% of pets, to be more specific. This shocking statistic can easily lead to infections and other health problems for the animal later in life.
Pet dental care is a lot easier than most people realize.
South Bay Veterinary Hospital routinely provides oral examinations and cleaning for Southern California pets. The procedure is safe and gentle. During the cleaning, a vet scrapes plaque and tartar off the teeth, similar to the process undergone in a human dental office. Animals are under mild anesthesia during the process for the comfort of the pet and the safety of our staff.
Common Pet Dental Ailments Seen at Our Vet Clinic
At
South Bay Veterinary Hospital, there are several common pet dental ailments we see. Besides general oral care, chipped and broken teeth are quite common. This problem often leads to problems for the pet in eating, drinking, and defending itself. Thus, it is important for a
veterinarian to monitor.
There is also an oral disease called Stomatitis that can be quite detrimental to pet health. This problem begins when a pet has an overabundance of tartar and plaque against the gums. The animal's immune system then becomes allergic to the plaque and begins to shed teeth in response. As this infection grows, it can cause major health problems and even eventually death for the animal.
Any notice of red gums, bleeding from the mouth, or obvious mouth pain should be reported immediately to our
animal hospital.
