San Diego Pet Surgery: Spay and Neuter and More
Whether your pet needs a routine spay or neuter surgery, a pet dental procedure, or something more complex like ACL surgery or tumor removal, our Chula Vista pet surgery team is ready to help. Each veterinarian here at South Bay Veterinary Hospital is experienced with the latest surgical techniques, and we are equipped with state-of-the-art technology and diagnostics equipment. With digital radiography, ultrasound and in-house laboratory facilities, we can diagnose problems quickly, without waiting for answers from outside sources. Also, our in-house pharmacy means that we have the prescription and pain management medications needed to support your pet’s comfort and recovery before, during and after surgery. Our ultimate goal is to make your pet’s surgery as comfortable, uncomplicated and successful as possible.
Experienced Veterinary Care for Pet Surgery Procedures
South Bay Veterinary Hospital is open seven days a week, so we are able to handle emergency pet surgeries as well as scheduled and routine procedures. And with six highly-skilled, compassionate veterinarians here, we can perform any pet surgery necessary. The following surgeries are some of the most common ones we perform, but if you need to talk with a veterinarian about any other procedure, please call us.
Spay and Neuter Surgeries
We perform hundreds of these scheduled surgeries each year. Not only do these surgeries help curb the overflowing population of stray and unwanted animals in our shelters, but they have tangible preventative medical benefits for pets also. Statistics show that spayed and neutered pets live longer, healthier lives. Removing the reproductive organs of pets prevents them from impregnating or getting pregnant, but it also removes the chances of them getting reproductive cancers such as testicular, mammary, uterine and ovarian cancers.
We can perform these surgeries at the same time as spay or neuter surgeries if your dog (generally larger breed dogs) runs a higher risk of developing a deadly condition called gastric dilation volvulus (GDV). GDV is a condition where the stomach twists, preventing proper digestion and trapping food and gasses inside the dog’s stomach. Abdominal bloating and discomfort are symptoms that require immediate, life-saving attention from our veterinarian. We can perform surgery to untwist the stomach, during which time we may also perform a gastropexy to tack the stomach to the abdominal wall so that it does not twist in the future.
If your dog is injured or suffers from a musculoskeletal problem of any kind, we can perform complex orthopedic surgeries also. ACL repair surgery is one of the most common orthopedic surgeries we perform, as well as surgeries to correct a luxating patella. We also perform hip dysplasia surgeries. Our digital radiography equipment helps us to diagnose the exact problem for the most precise surgical procedure to correct any orthopedic problems your pet has. In addition to these surgeries, we also remove tumors, perform dental surgery and other kinds of operations. Please call us at 619-422-6186 for a consultation regarding surgery for your pet.
